What is a 24 hour Blood Pressure Monitor?

The Blood Pressure (BP) Monitor consists of cuff placed around your upper arm and a small portable device that is then attached to the cuff. This device automatically inflates the cuff at regular intervals—typically every 15–30 minutes during the day and every hour at night—to record your blood pressure readings . This gives a better indication of your blood pressure while you go about your daily activities, including sleep and rest periods.

These readings are recorded by the machine’s computer. There is no need for you to record the blood pressure readings.

You will need an initial appointment with your GP to determine if you are suitable for a BP Monitor.

Call our reception team on 03 9874 7399 to book an appointment. Once the GP orders these test, you will need to book two appointments with one of our nursing staff. One to get the monitor fitted and then 24+ hours later to take the BP Monitor off.

Your GP will receive the results in about a week and another appointment with you GP will need to be made to get the results.
